Our Times are in His Hands

World events (here and here) could easily be an occassion for despair. Quite honestly, it's getting ugly out there. It is in times like these that God's people must remember who is ultimately in control. Certainly God uses means to accomplish His purposes. He has used good men and wicked men. He has used times of prosperity and times of depression. God has used diplomacy and war to bring about His sovreign will.

It is good to have godly people serving in politics and the military. But may we never forget that our times are not ultimately determined by any president, congressman, judge, or general. What is more, our lives do not, in the end, rest in the wicked designes of dictators and jihadists.

"The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the Lord; he turns it wherever he will."
- Proverbs 21:1

"Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases."
- Psalm 115:3

"The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place..."
- Acts 17:24-26

"In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will."
- Ephesians 1:11
