Yes, it is a disturbing precedent. But, not because of the decision in and of itself - but for the reasoning given.
To me, the real story is the tragedy of being unequally yoked. I'm not laying blame - I feel for this mother and child and I don't know all the backstory. But, in most cases, the father has a right to have a say and therein lies the problem. We cannot expect the world to value Christ as we do...

Good observation.
Because the girl's parents have radically opposing views on the raising and educating of their daughter not only is the girl harmed but now the government is given the opportunity to flex its intrusive muscles which is bad for everyone.
