The difference an inch makes

In America, personhood is often determined by an inch or less. If any portion of a baby's body remains in the birth canal then he or she is afforded no status as a person. Sometimes even after the baby is completely delivered they are treated like trash to be thrown away. This is the ugly truth behind activists, doctors, and politicians who fight proudly for a "woman's right to choose."

Thanks to Denny Burk for calling attention to an article in The Associated Press about a Florida doctor being investigated over a botched abortion. Remember that a botched abortion is when the baby is not successfully slaughtered.

Eighteen and pregnant, Sycloria Williams went to an abortion clinic outside Miami and paid $1,200 for Dr. Pierre Jean-Jacque Renelique to terminate her 23-week pregnancy.

Three days later, she sat in a reclining chair, medicated to dilate her cervix and otherwise get her ready for the procedure.

Only Renelique didn't arrive in time. According to Williams and the Florida Department of Health, she went into labor and delivered a live baby girl.

What Williams and the Health Department say happened next has shocked people on both sides of the abortion debate: One of the clinic's owners, who has no medical license, cut the infant's umbilical cord. Williams says the woman placed the baby in a plastic biohazard bag and threw it out.

Also, check out Dr. Burk's post HERE.

Finally, a word to those of you who either support abortion rights or who are indifferent to this whole issue. If you are shocked and appalled at how this little girl was killed, then why not be shocked and appalled at the fact that if the doctor had arrived on time the same outrage would have occurred? The only difference would have been that the killing would have taken place in a different location.

Reading the article made me both sad and angry. How anyone could condone the killing of a live baby, no matter how premature is truly evil. It is beyond my comprehension that the abortion debate still goes on in this country. When are Christians going to stand up and say enough is enough? When are they going to start voting their beliefs? When are pastors going to begin preaching these truths from the pulpit? We are so afraid of being politically correct, of offending people in our congregations, that we are losing our souls. We are slaughtering millions of our children all in the name of the “right to choose”, and have now elected a president actively pushing for even looser standards, yet for the most part I hear silence in the Christian community. If we do not stand up, who will?

Very sad indeed. It's even more heartbreaking when one considers the vast number of Americans who are scrambling to adopt a child, and yet, are unable to. This mother would have had her choice of parents for her little girl. She could have looked through books full of stable, happy couples who would have done anything to love and riase her baby, and it wouldn't have cost her a thing, except 17 more weeks of being pregnant.

PSALM 94:1-11

LORD, avenging God, avenging God, shine forth!
Rise up, judge of the earth; give the proud what they deserve.
How long, LORD, shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked glory?
How long will they mouth haughty speeches, go on boasting, all these evildoers?
They crush your people, LORD, torment your very own.
They kill the widow and alien; the fatherless they murder.
They say, "The LORD does not see; the God of Jacob takes no notice."
Understand, you stupid people! You fools, when will you be wise?
Does the one who shaped the ear not hear? The one who formed the eye not see?
Does the one who guides nations not rebuke? The one who teaches humans not have knowledge?
The LORD does know human plans; they are only puffs of air…
