Sunday's Sermon

On Sunday I preached part 5 in our series through Acts. It is entitled "They Were Cut to the Heart" and may be listened to HERE.

Lana said...: Hi. So on Sunday in the second service you said that in chapter or verse 12 it says that the Pentecost is not meant to be recreated, it's a singular event. I was raised in a Pentecost church where, of course the event was meant to be recreated over and over and sought after. Would please point out that passage again? I tried listening to the podcast but I think it's the first service, and does not have that part. For me your acts sermons are like a breath of fresh air, very eye opening. Todd Pruitt said...: Thanks Lana. It's not so much that there is a verse that says, "Pentecost was a single event," but that the whole trajectory of redemptive history makes it plain. So, for instance, the atonement happened as a singular moment at the death of Christ. It is not repeatable nor is his resurrection. Each of these were specific moments in redemptive history. And like the incarnation and atonement and resurrection of Christ, the pouring out of the Spirit at Pentecost was fully anticipated through the prophets as a singular moment of redemptive history. The Spirit has been poured out. He does not need to be repeatedly poured out any more than Christ has to continually make atonement for sins.; March 11, 2014 at 12:12 PM
