Maybe someone should tell him about the New Covenant and recount that whole "roof-top Peter scenario" since pepperoni is no longer explicitly prohibited as it was in ...wait, there wasn't pepperoni "back in the Bible days."
Thank you- this clip was highly entertaining but for different reasons than his charmed congregation found.
Joel Osteen is a sad example of what happens when a man unqualified to shepherd God's flock is thrust into church leadership. Osteen's knowlege of the Scriptures is clearly slight. He has erased the line between the law and the Gospel. And yet people flock to him by the tens of thousands. He has, by far, the most viewed religious broadcast in the world. A clear indictment of contemporary evangelicalism.
Osteen clearly errs in teaching that eating pork and shell fish is against the law of God. But notice his tone. He jokes about it. It's all very light. If Osteen truly believes that the Old Covenant dietary laws are still active then shouldn't he be warning his people not to violate God's law? Isn't God's law more than just good advice?
There was a time when I also referred to Joel Osteen as "Pastor Osteen" in the spirit of giving the benefit of the doubt. I've decided to stop doing that. He's just another self-designated "life coach" (re: his interview on 60 Minutes) who sprinkles his "pep rally" speeches with Pop Psychology gibberish and Christianoid language.
A native of Houston, Texas, Todd served as youth pastor in churches in Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma.
Todd was called as the first pastor of Metro East Baptist Church in September of 1999. In November 2008 Todd became the Teaching Pastor of Church of the Saviour in Wayne, Pennsylvania.
Following a call to the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA), Todd became the Lead Pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg, VA in August of 2013.
He is a graduate of Southwest Baptist University and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Todd and his wife, Karen, have been married since 1990 and have three children: Kate, Ryan, and Matthew.
"Therefore the Christ who is grasped by faith and who lives in the heart is the true Christian righteousness, on account of which God counts us righteous and grants us eternal life."
Martin Luther
"The Gospel is sheer good tidings, not demand but promise, not duty but gift."

One would have to explain to pastor Joel the difference between the two covenants.
Wait what!? He's wrong..! I just made a vowel to never consume pork again...turkey bacon from here on out.....wait..nah
It might be good if Pastor Joel actually read the whole Bible and let scripture interpret scripture...just a thought :-)

Buffalo?!? The Bible says it's OK to eat Buffalo? Maybe he's thinking of the Book of Mormon!
I had the same thought. I've missed the biblical injunction to consume buffalo meat. Maybe Joel is studying the TNIV.
Not even the TNIV deserves that kind of slam, Todd. ;-)
Joel is probably reading from this version.
