Christians in Public

The latest edition of Mortification of Spin: Bully Pulpit has been posted. In this episode we discuss the role of Christians in the public square, specifically as it relates to abortion.

I completely agree with your take on no flags in church, Todd. Frankly, I think flag-waving in a church is an abomination.

That said, I go with Aimee's take on the proper sphere and practice for Christians - ordained or not - in addressing civic issues.

Hey Tim. Thanks for listening. My concern is that I wonder how that philosophy works itself out in 1930's Berlin or 1950's Mississippi. Certainly the church ought to have a public voice to decry public evil.

Todd, I completely agree. Evil can be called out for what it is as part of preaching the good news of the gospel. That does not mean taking on political activism, of course. I see it more in line with OT prophets telling evil leaders, "Hey leaders! Stop being evil! Stop it!"
