Blurring the lines between business and ministry

Two well known "pastors" in the prosperity movement announced their coming divorce (MSNBC.com). This is a tragic report. It is a dangerous thing to follow men (or women). How can so many people follow preachers who have so clearly abandoned Christ for success and money? I am speachless.

..."pastors" are people too. As such are fallible and succumb to the temptations the rest of us "real people" do. Just as you trust that your physician is competent and remains "current" in his/her practice...I typically trust that my pastor competently portrays/preaches the gospel.

Might it be that I sometimes seek out/follow those who ONLY share my beliefs as well as my justifications for power, prestige, fortune and material possessions? This way I am "safe"...and stagnant, never challenged to "hurt" or grow.

Hey Scott,

We miss you at church, brother. Hope you and your family are doing well. I saw you riding your bike the other day on Central. Watch out for us crazy drivers!

Good observations Scott. I think you are "spot on". Our natural tendency is to gather around ourselves teachers who will tell us what we want to hear. I certainly have that bent in me.
